Poor performance when exporting data from IBM i2 iBase to Microsoft Excel

Troubleshooting

Problem

When attempting to export a large dataset (such as the results of a 4000 row query for example) to Excel, the process takes a very long time to complete.

Cause

IBM i2 iBase's Export to Excel function uses Microsoft Office automation to transfer the data between applications (iBase and Excel). The performance of this is dependent on Microsoft Office and changes in Microsoft Office may have made this slower. The performance may be affected by memory usage particularly with large amounts of data.

Resolving The Problem

Exporting your data (via an iBase export specification) to a text based file such as a csv file is a simple file output process from iBase and as such should be quicker.
