IBM i support for POWER6, October 2014
IBM plans for IBM i 7.2 to be the final release to be supported on POWER6 systems:
- POWER6 BladeCenter models JS12, JS22, JS23, JS43
- POWER6 Power 520, 550, 560, 570, 595
Minimum load source size change, May 2014
The minimum load source disk size for IBM i 7.2 is 70 GB of usable space. This size is based on storage with 520-byte sectors.

Hardware considerations before upgrading to IBM i 7.2 on POWER6, May 2014
- IBM i 7.2 will not support RIO/HSL loops or drawers on POWER6
- IBM i 7.2 on POWER6 does not support IOPs or IOP based adapters
IOPless (Smart IOA) options are available for all I/O attachments (except Twinax and IXS) and provide more efficient attachment of I/O. Customers using IOP based I/O must move off IOPs to enable upgrading to IBM i 7.2.
