PK91245; 7.0.0.5: required attribute ignored in cachespec.xml

Download

Abstract

When the <required> attribute is set to false a cache id may not be generated.

Download Description

PK91245 resolves the following problem:

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
If the <required> attribute is set to false then the expectation is a cache id will be generated regardless if other attributes are satisfied.

LOCAL FIX:
N/A

PROBLEM SUMMARY

USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM WebSphere Application Server using dynacache and <required> attribute in cachespec.xml.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When the <required> attribute is set to false a cache id may not be generated.

RECOMMENDATION:
None

In version 6.0.2 of the application server if the <required> attribute is false then all other attributes are ignored and a cache id is generated. In version 6.1 this behavior was changed and the <required> attribute is evaluated along with all other attributes to determine if a cache id is generated.

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
This APAR introduces JVM custom property com.ibm.ws.use602RequiredAttrCompatibility. When the property is set to true then the behavior of version 6.0.2 is run. The default value is false. Setting this JVM custom property affects all dynacache users.

To set a JVM custom property:
Click Servers > Application Servers > server > Java and Process Management > Process Definition > Java Virtual Machine > Custom Properties.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 6.1.0.29 and 7.0.0.9. Please refer to the Recommended
