ERROR DESCRIPTION:
Configure proxy server in IBM® WebSphere® Application Server to redirect URL
http://hostname1/ (or http://hostname1) to http://hostname2/?
Environment:
- WebSphere Application Server V6.1 Network Deployment
- A WebSphere proxy server listen on "hostname1:80"
- A routing rule of proxy server is setup like this :
URI pattern : "/*"
- Routing action : Redirect URL at "http://hostname2/"
Problem:
When browser send URL to proxy:
- http://hostname1/foo --> OK : Redirect on http://hostname2/
- http://hostname1// --> OK : Redirect on http://hostname2/
- http://hostname1/ --> Error 404
LOCAL FIX:
When configuring proxy server's routine rule, in "URI group configuration", enter both /* and // in "URI pattern" field. See the Information Center topic for more details.
PROBLEM SUMMARY
USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1 using a proxy server.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
HTTP 404 response code when routing to a null URI.
RECOMMENDATION:
None
When an application has a null URI pattern, the proxy server is returning a HTTP 404 response code rather than routing as appropriate. The Download Manager client code needs to be updated to correctly match the URI pattern.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
The code was fixed to match the URI pattern and the fix was made available for the V6.1.0.15 release. The fix will be included in Service Pack 6.1.0.17 for WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment.
