Performance issues in Cognos 11.0.8

Troubleshooting


Problem

This document is to address the issue of a performance drop in 11.0.8.

Symptom

From the Fiddler trace, numerous simple actions were taking >30 seconds to be completed.
From the process monitor, the Java process was taking a long time to run:

The top Cognos process used more than 2 hours CPU-time.

Steps taken:
  1. Updated database statistics of the content store
  2.  Took a copy of the content store and restored it into another database
  3. Cleaned the audit tables in content store to reduce the amount of data (size of content store 550 MB)
  4. Used different browsers (IE and Chrome) and in private browsing
  5. Tested via dispatcher
