Performance issue with "SELECT COUNT(*)" query with Big SQL Federated table with Teradata

Question & Answer

Question

After completing Big SQL federation setup with Teradata, and trying to run select count(*) query on a federated table of size 40+ million records from Big SQL is taking more than 1 minute. The same select count(*) query if executed in Terdata, it takes less than a second. What steps can I take to address this performance issue?
