Troubleshooting
Problem
The SAS Controller test fails while running the onboard F2 PC Doctor Diagnostics SAS controller test for multiple loops or passes on one of the affected xSeries servers. This test may also fail on a single loop intermittently. The PC Doctor Diagnostics will display the following message: --xxx-xxx-xxx-date-xx-RAID Interface: Failed (Timeout waiting for the adapter to complete command) --xxx-xxx-xxx-date-xx-RAID Interface: Failed (On system board; internal error) --xxx-xxx-xxx-date-xx-RAID Interface: Failed (Failed to setup adapter in slot) --SAS Controller ...................FAILED

Solution |
---|
This issue will be fixed in the next ServeRAID firmware release which is targeted for second quarter 2007.
The referenced file will be available from the "Servers - ServeRAID Software Matrix" at the following URL:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=psg1SERV-RAID
Workaround |
---|
Customers should rely on the built-in controller diagnostics which logs all RAID controller activity in the ServeRAID event logs.
Additional Information |
---|
The Memory Header of a page in the controller was getting invalid data when running the Local Memory Tests through the PC Doctor SAS Controller test. This test allocates a piece of memory, writes fixed patterns, and verifies it. During this process, the patterns are written across the boundaries of the allocated space, which causes this memory header to have invalid data causing the SAS controller test to fail.
The new firmware release prevents the controller memory patterns from being written across the boundaries.
