Password Policy Examples
The following examples show how to set up your passwordrequirements on the Password Policy page.
Password Syntax Example
The following exampleshows how to set up the password syntax options on the Password Policypage:
- Set Check Syntax to Yes.
- Set Min Length to 7.
- Set Min Alpha Chars to 4.
- Set Min Numeric Chars to 2.
- Set Min Special Chars to 0.
The system will enforce these password standards:
- The user must create a password that is at least 7 characterslong. There is no maximum password length.
- The password must contain at least four letters and two numbers.
- The password does not have to contain any special characters.The user can enter special characters but they are not required.
Password Expiration Example
The followingexample shows how to set up the password expiration options on thePassword Policy page:
- Set Expires to Yes.
- Set Max Age to 45.
- Set Warning Before Expire to 5.
The system will enforce these password standards:
- The password will expire 45 days after each user creates it.
- Starting 40 days after users create a new password the systemwill display a message to let them know the password is about to expire.
- Users have up to 5 days to change the password before it expires.
Password Lockout Example
The following exampleshows how to set up the password lockout options on the Password Policypage:
- Set Lockout to Yes.
- Set Lockout Duration to 30.
- Set Failures Before Lockout to 4.
- Set Reset Failure to 0 (thedefault).
- Set Unlock to Yes.
The system will enforce these password standards:
- The system locks out the user after the user tries to log on fourtimes in a row without supplying the correct user name and password.
- The user is locked out of Sterling TMS for 30 minutes.After 30 minutes the user can try to log on again without any administratorintervention.
- After the user logs on correctly the system sets the internalcount of the user's failed logon attempts to 0.
The following example shows how to reset the user's password:
- Set Lockout to Yes.
- Set Lockout Duration to 30.
- Set Failures Before Lockout to 3.
- Set Reset Failure to 0 (thedefault).
- Set Unlock to No.
The system will enforce these password standards:
- The system locks out the user after the user tries to log on threetimes in a row without supplying the correct user name and password.
- The user is locked out of Sterling TMS until theshipper or carrier administrator resets the password. The administratorhas set the Unlock option to Noso the system ignores the Lockout Duration settingof 30 minutes.
- After the administrator resets the password and the user logson correctly the system sets the internal count of the failed logonattempts of the user to 0.
Password History Example
The following exampleshows how to set up the password history options on the Password Policypage:
- Set Number in History to 5.
- The system keeps track of the user's current password and previousfive passwords. The user cannot change the password to be any of thesesix passwords.
