Abstract

The CPI-C to RFC migration tool ("the Tool") provides means to automate the migration of SAP ABAP jobs that use the CPI-C data transfer method. It will update the jobs to use the new RFC data transfer method.

Technote 1691167 details the Pack for SAP and Information Server versions supported as well as Tool availability (Pack-integrated vs. stand-alone).

Online Documentation
The online documentation lists the prerequisites and explains how to prepare jobs for migration.

Limitations

  1. The Tool does not display jobs that do not meet the prerequisites. This is by design.
  2. A valid SAP connection has to be configured in all jobs (including the Design-time connection details)
  3. The Tool should be used with jobs from SAP Pack version 6.5. Using it with jobs from older versions is not tested or supported. Upgrade to 6.5 before using the Tool.
  4. The Tool is not compatible with Information Server (IS) version 11.3 and above. In order to use older jobs with an IS 11.3 installation, convert the jobs on the older IS installation before copying them to IS 11.3.
  5. Jobs must be compiled before migration.

Known Issues
  • Technote 1570553: Warning produced by a certain version of the SAP JCo library
  • Technote 1572747: Custom ABAP programs will be overwritten with a standard program generated based on the stage settings during migration. Previous manual changes will be lost.
  • Technote 1570902: The DataStage logon properties must be provided once when opening a job from the Tool
  • If you get this error while starting the Tool:
    “An unexpected exception occurred: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException:java.lang.NullPointerException.”,
    it may be necessary to delete the following files on the Client tier and restart the Tool:
    <IS Client installation folder>\Clients\Classic\DSSAPbin\cpic2rfc.log
    <IS Client installation folder>\Clients\Classic\DSSAPbin\global.properties

Available Fixes
Fixes included in the latest maintenance version (patch required for the Pack-integrated version, fixes included in the stand-alone Tool):
  • 188758 (no APAR) - Fix handling of illegal values in the configuration file
  • JR49524 - Jobs do not appear in CPIC to RFC Migration Tool in case Xmeta is Oracle based
  • JR47408 - The CPIC to RFC Migration Tool fails to start when the server is configured to use SSL
  • JR44112 - The CPIC to RFC Migration Tool does not open on IS 9.1
