Brocade storage area network (SAN) switch modules for IBM eServer BladeCenter

The Brocade Enterprise SAN switch module and the Brocade Entry SAN switch module integrate the Brocade fabric into the BladeCenter architecture. These SAN fabric switches deliver the advanced Brocade functions, performance, manageability, scalability, and security required by the most demanding SANs. Integration of SAN switching capabilities reduces complexity and increases SAN manageability. This offering further leverages the leadership capabilities our BladeCenter Alliance Partners to provide customers the most technology choices.

IBM eServer BladeCenter Fibre Channel (FC) expansion card

This Fibre Channel Host Bus adapter contains a single FC controller supporting two independent ports, each capable of up to 2 Gb/s transmissions. This option replaces the current Fibre Channel expansion card option (48P7061).

Intel Gigabit Ethernet expansion card for IBM eServer BladeCenter

The Intel Ethernet expansion card delivers an additional dual one 2 Gigabit Ethernet network interface card on the HS40 Blade. Used in conjunction with any of the Ethernet switch modules or Optical Pass-Thru Module in I/O Module bays 3 and/or 4, additional Ethernet connections are enabled on the server blade.

At a glance

This switching fabric option for the IBM eServer BladeCenter chassis:

  • Resides in I/O module slots 3 and/or 4 of the IBM BladeCenter chassis
  • Connects to the server blades via 14 internal fabric port interfaces (server ports) over the eServer BladeCenter midplane
  • Offers two external auto sensing U ports (F, FL, or E)
  • Delivers two internal 100Mbps Ethernet links for switch setup and management
  • Available as Entry SAN switch (connecting up to one additional external switch) or Enterprise SAN switch (connecting up to 238 additional external switches).
  • Equivalent function to Brocade Silkworm 3900
