The IBM ServeRAID-8s SAS PCIe Controller (39R8765) and the IBM ServeRAID-8s Battery (39R8812) provide a solid performing storage solution for managing internal and external storage. The RAID adapter provides investment protection by supporting SAS and SATA hard drive configurations and providing performance enhancements enabled by an optional battery.

The IBM ServeRAID 8s SAS Controller (39R8765) provides an ideal solution for all servers and workstations needing ultra high speed data transfer in disk connectivity for data backup and mission critical applications. Positioned specifically for the Small to Medium Business (SMB) market, as well as departments of Large Enterprise (LE), the solution is ideal for supporting server and workgroup applications where high levels of sustained read and write operations are required.

The 8 lane PCI-Express SAS Controller offers full hardware RAID functionality and has 256 MB ECC memory. It can handle medium to large capacity server storage applications by connecting one or two internal x4 SFF-8470 connectors to the server internal storage. The single external x4 SFF-8484 connector may be used for attachment to an IBM System Storage EXP3000 JBOD SAS enclosure if only one internal connector is utilized. The ServeRAID-8s allows for cascading up to 3 EXP 3000 per SAS port for scalable storage growth.

• (1) Use cable to connect adapter to Hot Swap SAS or SATA HDD in IBM System x3200 and x3250
• (2) Use cable to connect adapter to Simple Swap SATA HDD in IBM System x3200

ServeRAID-8s is supported for internal HDD attach in hot swap SAS/SATA models of System x3200 and x3250 by attaching a system unique cable to the ServeRAID-8s Internal SAS ports to the system backplane.

• For IBM System x3250 and x3200 Hot Swap SATA/SAS models, optional HS SAS/SATA 8s Cable 43W4908 is required for connection to ServeRAID-8s.
• For IBM System x3200 Simple Swap models, optional SS SATA 8s Cable 43W4910 is required for connection to ServeRAID-8s.
