Hardware requirements
Ultra320 SCSI HDD options
An Ultra320 SCSI controller must be connected to these HDD options in order to run in Ultra320 SCSI mode. If connected to an Ultra160 SCSI controller, the HDD will function in Ultra160 SCSI mode.

Ultra320 SCSI hot swap HDD options
The Ultra320 hot swap HDD options are supported in Ultra160 or Ultra320 SCSI modes in the hot swap drive bays of the following xSeries servers:

Server Type Model
xSeries 225 8647 all
xSeries 235 8671 all
xSeries 335 8676 all
xSeries 345 8670 all

The Ultra320 SCSI hot swap HDDs are supported in the BladeCenter HS20 SCSI Storage Expansion Unit (48P7058) when installed in a BladeCenter (Type 8677).

Ultra320 SCSI Non-hot swap HDD options
The Ultra320 HDD, non-hot swap options, are supported in Ultra160 or Ultra320 SCSI modes in the fixed hard drive bays of the following xSeries servers:

Server Type Model
xSeries 200 8479 all
xSeries 205 8480 all
xSeries 220 8646 all
xSeries 225 8647 all
xSeries 305 8673 all
xSeries 330 8674 all

The Ultra320 HDD, non-hot swap options, are supported in Ultra160 or Ultra320 SCSI modes in the fixed hard drive bays of the following IntelliStation workstations:

IntelliStation Type Model
E Pro 6204, 6214, 6216, 6226 all
M Pro 6229, 6849, 6850, 6868 all
Z Pro 6221 all

Software requirements
These options are supported by the same operating system and application software as the system in which they are installed.

Limitations
Hot swap versions of these Ultra320 SCSI HDDs options contain a new carrier assembly designed to support the Ultra320 SCSI mode. This new carrier is not backward compatible with hot swap backplanes designed for Ultra160 or other SCSI modes contained in many xSeries servers or EXP storage expansion units. Attempting to install these options in those systems or expansion units may cause damage to the system, or the HDD option, and may void the warranty.

These HDD options are only supported on the systems listed in the hardware requirements section. Information pertaining to compatibility with existing systems, or for support of new systems as they are announced, can be obtained on our ServerProven Web site at: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/

Document notes

  1. "CRU" stands for Customer Replaceable Unit. It is the part number used for ordering service and replacement parts.
  2. "Effective withdrawal" means that on the given date IBM will have withdrawn the products from marketing. After that date, the product cannot be obtained directly from IBM.
