Abstract
Question:
Is there a supported method to use the osinstall RPM to deploy Linux on my AIX server? And is it possible to install the osinstall on a Linux-based operating system to setup NIM on your Linux server?
Content
Answer:
Starting in AIX 7100-00, CSM was removed, (which is needed by the Linux bootloader when you run the OS_install command) and AIX has terminated support and NIM does not have any plans to continue with a Linux install roadmap.
Recommendations:
We recommend customers use more advanced installers such as CloudBurst or Smart Cloud Entry.
The nimol-1.0-4.noarch.rpm package, that is still being shipped with AIX base media images was not updated to work with Linux distributions, that use rpcbind (from example RHEL above 5.4).
The files on the HMC/IVM has the support for internal IBM use only but those updates weren't added to the NIMOL RPM. IBM will only support NIMOL on Linux running on HMC releases."
