RETAIN tip H201068: Trap 000D error occurs when the system reads from diskette 1 when installing OS/2.
Resolving The Problem

Symptom
Trap 000D error occurs when the system reads from diskette 1
There are two scenarios that this trap will occur during installation:
- Scenario 1 - Installation of OS/2 using ServerGuide version 4.0.2 or higher
- Scenario 2 - Installation of OS/2 using the installation instructions provided on the web for the Netfinity 3500.
The system is any Netfinity 3500 server, Type 8644, any Model. The system is being configured with OS/2 Warp Server, any version.
The AIC7870.add 1/12/98 and higher Device Driver for the Adaptec On-board SCSI controller is affected.
The 1.31 and higher Firmware for the Adaptec On-board (7895) SCSI controller is affected.
Workaround
Boot to the Netfinity 3500 SCSI Initialization Utility version 1.02, (P/N 33L3959A).
Using the utility
- Boot from this utility diskette.
- At the DOS prompt type "zero ."
- When prompted to choose the port, enter " 0" for the appropriate port.
- After the A:\ prompt returns to the screen, remove the diskette and reboot the system.
Note : This utility is not to be distributed to customers or utilized for any other purpose than to address the symptoms described in this tip.
Details
Some Planar FRUs are escaping to the field without the proper initialization of the on-board Adaptec EEPROM. The result of not initializing the EEPROM is that the EEPROM will have incorrect bit assignments and the Adaptec driver will read that portion of the EEPROM and read the incorrect bit assignments, causing the system to hang during OS2 install or load. The utility mentioned above will ensure the proper initialization of the EEPROM, thus allowing the systems BIOS to assign the proper values to the specific portion of the EEPROM.
