Oracle string concatenation with null modifies the native sql to produce null

Troubleshooting

Problem

If the underlying database is Oracle, an expression in Cognos which concatenates two strings (such as "dataitem1 + dataitem2") will result in null if either dataitem1 or dataitem2 is null.
