Does Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager support Oracle databases with Automatic Storage Management (ASM) in an SAP environment ?
Cause
You may run into errors when trying to backup Oracle databases with Automatic Storage Management (ASM) in an SAP environment using Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager.

Answer
Oracle databases with Automatic Storage Management (ASM) in an SAP environment are not supported by Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager.
Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager. does support:
- Oracle databases with Automatic Storage Management (ASM) when not used in combination with SAP environments.
- Oracle databases without Automatic Storage Management (ASM) in SAP environments.

Technical details:
SAP supports the backup of Oracle databases with ASM only with Oracle RMAN (option backup_dev_type is set to rman_util in the SAP BR*TOOLS initialization profile init<DBSID>.sap).
The settings backup_dev_type = [util_file|util_vol] are not supported with ASM by SAP but
these are the only supported device types for Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager.
