Question

Optimization Features

Answer

Optimization Features

The goal of the optimizer is to build the load plan solution withthe lowest overall cost based on:

  • The set of orders you submit
  • The representative costs and minimum savings you define
  • The optimization run parameters
  • The transit time needed to deliver the freight

The optimizer provides the following general features:

  • The optimizer supports multiple transportation modes. For exampleyou can consolidate parcel orders into LTL LTL loads into largerLTL loads and LTL into Truckload.
  • For each mode you can define fleets that support different servicetypes such as normal or expedited service.
  • You can define a wide variety of run parameters that let you tunethe optimization to meet your business constraints.
  • You can submit orders that do not have a mode assigned. Basedon the Mode Selection Thresholds you define Sterling TMS can feed theorders to the optimizer to select the most cost-effective mode.
  • You can use Direct Rate Contracts to store the representativeshipping costs for different modes and service types. The optimizeruses these rates to compare shipping costs across modes.
  • The optimizer takes into account transit times when it determinesthe modes that are eligible to make the delivery on time.
  • Load planners can use the Load Builder module in Sterling TMS to quicklyreview and approve the shipments built by the optimizer.
