Opening very large files crashes application with an out of memory exception

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to open unusually large files in IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software or Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Software results in an "OutOfMemoryException" error.

Symptom

Opening a very large file results in an OutOfMemoryException after a delay.

Note: Occasionally the file will manage to open but will crash the product if an attempt is made to save any changes made.

The full error message is as follows:

An out of memory errors has occurred. Consult the "Running Eclipse" section of the read me file for information on preventing this kind of error in the future.

You are recommended to exit the workbench.

Subsequent errors may happen and may terminate the workbench without warning.
