Opening a Microsoft Word or Excel document with a Hyperlink in FileNet Workplace XT user is directed to default page

Problem

Opening a Workplace XT document hyperlink in Microsoft Office Word 2003 & 2007, the user is directed to the default home page in Workplace XT rather than the document content

Symptom

The same issue cannot be reproduced in Workplace, the difference in between the Workplace and Workplace XT hyperlinks is Workplace XT hyperlink has two more letters "XT"


The document hyperlink generated by Workplace, if it is pasted directly into MS 2003 or 2007 Word document and the link is clicked a logon is displayed and after logon the document content will be displayed.


The document hyperlink generated by Workplace XT , if it is pasted into MS 2003 or 2007 Word document, and the link is clicked a logon is displayed and after logon the default page of Workplace XT is displayed rather than the document

The Workplace XT hyperlink does work if it is typed directly in the browser or in the Open
box of the Run dialog box (click Start, and then click Run).

In addition, this issue cannot be reproduced when clicking the Workplace XT
document hyperlink in HTML file, IBM Lotus Notes file and\or IBM Symphony file.

Cause

This is caused by a known issue for MS Word, details can be found on the Microsoft website KB 218153

Resolving The Problem

Following the Microsoft KB article to modify a registry key will resolve the issue.
