Executing the HPCC benchmark suite using Open Message Passing Interface (MPI) 1.5.5 generates a HWLOC error on both Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL6).2 and SLES11.2. An example of the error message follows: Hwloc has encountered what looks like anerror from the operating system. object intersection without inclusion! Symptom

Executing the High Performance Computing Challenge (HPCC) benchmark suite using Open Message Passing Interface (MPI) 1.5.5 generates a Hardware Locality (HWLOC) error on both Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 (RHEL6.2) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.2 (SLES11.2). An example of the error message follows:

	Hwloc has encountered what looks like an error from the operating system. object intersection without inclusion! Error occurred in topology.c line 594 Please report this error message to the hwloc user's mailing list, along with the output from the hwloc-gather-topology.sh script.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

IBM System Cluster 1350, type 4670, any model

Solution

The error message indicates that the Portable Hardware Locality software package has not been downloaded and installed.

Instructions from downloading and installing the Portable Hardware Locality software package are available on the Open MPI web site at:

Workaround

The error message can be suppressed by making the following environment variable assignment (on each server involved in the program execution):

	HWLOC_HIDE_ERRORS=1
