One client node hosting multiple web clients for multiple NAS node restores

Question & Answer

Question

Is it possible to configure a single system to host the web client interface for multiple NAS nodes?

Cause

Documentation is available for a single node configuration but not how to correctly configure the web client to restore NAS backup data for multiple NAS nodes from a single system.

Answer

Yes, one system can be configured to host the web client for multiple NAS nodes.

This requires setting up unique sets of client acceptor and agent services for each NAS node. Each NAS node must also have its own dsm.opt file, which must contain the correct NASNODENAME setting for the target NAS node and a unique HTTPPORT setting which points to a free port on the host system.

First create the opt file and then the client services can be created via the client GUI setup wizard using the web client option or by using the dsmcutil command.

See the related information links below for the single node configuration steps. Repeat these steps for each NAS node that is to be hosted on the system, ensure that the correct dsm.opt file and associated http port number is chosen each time.

Once the services are created and each client acceptor service is started, the web client logins should be available. From a supported browser access each one via, http://localhost:<port>, where port number is the number specified in the httpport setting of the dsm.opt file.

If there are issues accessing the web client, the service settings can be checked using the dsmcutil utility located in the baclient directory.

The "dsmcutil list" command can be used to list the Installed TSM Client Services on this system. The services can then be individually queried to review their details. In this example there is currently one pair created, each NAS node will have its own pair of services.

When reviewing the service details, confirm that each client acceptor points to the correct options file and the correct http port for the specific NAS node. Also ensure that the partner service points to the correct Remote Client Agent service.

For the client agent service, confirm the correct options file is listed and the partner service name is correct as well.
If changes need to be made to these settings, the dsmcutil command can be used to do this. See the related links below for more information.
