"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" using "Reports - Run" only when using 'bad' Oracle database server, caused by incorrect database server config

Troubleshooting


Problem

User clicks "Reports - Run". User chooses report/selections. User sends report to Excel (or simply clicks "preview"). An error message appears. However, this does not affect all databases. Specifically: * the problem occurs when using an Oracle schema#1 inside database#1 hosted on Oracle server#1. * the problem does NOT occur when the *same* application server/client uses Oracle schema#2 inside database#2 hosted on Oracle server#2.
