IBM Support

Not a valid account name or password, working in RequisitePro

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote identifies potential workarounds that to the error, [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Not a valid account name or password. -Unable to connect to datasource, which might occur when opening a Microsoft® Word document, adding a new requirement type, adding a document type, or adding a attribute type to a Microsoft Access based IBM® Rational® RequisitePro® project.

Cause

The path where the project is stored contains too many characters. The error message will be observed when the path is more than 127 characters.

Resolving The Problem

The first workaround for this issue is to shorten the path to the projects RQS file by storing your Microsoft Access based RequisitePro projects in folders where the full path is less than 127 characters.
Note: Paths that are under 127 characters should not cause the issue.

The second workaround for this issue is to use the RQDataTransportWiz.exe to move the Microsoft Access database to an enterprise database which is not affected by this path length limitation.
