Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to start an IBM Rational software product result in "No features to serve."
Symptom
Possible errors are the following.
- (Invalid host. (-9,333))
- (License server system does not support this feature. (-18,327)).
- No features to serve
The following messages in the lmgrd.log file serve as an example.
13:45:02 (ibmratl) No features to serve, exiting
13:45:02 (ibmratl) EXITING DUE TO SIGNAL 27
13:45:02 (rational) Server started on MyMachine for: RequisitePro
13:45:02 (rational) TestManager Robot ClearQuest
13:45:02 (rational) EXTERNAL FILTERS are OFF
13:45:02 (lmgrd) ibmratl exited with status 27 (No features to serve)
13:45:02 (lmgrd) ibmratl daemon found no features. Please correct
13:45:02 (lmgrd) license file and re-start daemons.
13:45:02 (lmgrd)
13:45:02 (lmgrd) This may be due to the fact that you are using
13:45:02 (lmgrd) a different license file from the one you expect.
13:45:02 (lmgrd) Check to make sure that:
13:45:02 (lmgrd) C:\Program Files\Rational\common\rational_server_perm.dat C:\Program Files\Rational\common\rational_server_temp.dat
13:45:02 (lmgrd) is the license file you want to use.
13:45:02 (lmgrd)
13:45:02 (lmgrd) rational using TCP-port 1171
15:01:17 (rational) TCP_NODELAY NOT enabled
Cause
Possible causes are the following.
- Authorized User (AU) licenses (nodelocked) are on the server machine.
- On the client computer the check box Use License Server is selected.
Resolving The Problem
Import AU licenses directly on the client computer and use the client computer's Host name and Host ID.
The following steps describe a procedure to import new AU licenses.
- Navigate to the Web site of the Rational License Key Center.
- Click on the link View and return keys to return only the AU license keys.
- Open the Rational License Key Center on the client computer to generate new AU licenses for the installed software products.
Note: You need the client system's Host name and the client system's Host ID.
- Click in the Rational License Key Administrator: Settings > License Usage Mapper... .
- Select all the check boxes of the installed products. Ensure that you only select the software products for which you have a license.
- Click Settings > Client/Server Configuration .
- Clear the check box Use License Server.
- On the server computer you delete the rational .dat files and .bak files in
C:\Program Files\Rational\Common .
- Ensure that the license.upd file for the license server only contains floating license keys.
If the file also contains AU license keys, you remove these AU license keys from this .upd file. To remove these AU keys, you use a text editor.
- Re-import this .upd file on the host computer that serves the floating licenses, in the License Key Administrator.
This action creates a new rational_server_perm.dat file and a new rational_server_temp.dat file.
Notes
- In case you installed the AU licenses on the server computer, you regenerate these license keys with the appropriate Host name and Host ID. Then import these re-generated license keys on to the client computer where you installed the product.
- The AU licenses do not require a license server to work. Floating licenses do require a license server.
