IBM AIX and PowerVM How To: How to resolve LED 2700 when booting an AIX LPAR or PowerVM (VIOS)

How To

Summary

This document provides information on how to resolve or work around situations when an AIX LPAR or VIOS (PowerVM server) does not boot and is hung at LED 2700.

After an LPM or firmware upgrade, the system appears to hang with an LED 2700 during the boot process.
The error can be the result of an extended amount of time required by the system to scan virtual Fibre Channel adapters and LUNs.

This results in the cfgmgr command to time out, preventing the LPAR from booting and displaying LED 2700 (that is, on the HMC).
The issue can be prevented by making sure all the adapters and LUNs are in either an available or defined state before booting or rebooting an LPAR.

Environment

AIX
PowerVM/VIOS

Steps

There are two options available depending on your configuration and scenario.
Option #1-Try initiating Login/Logout operation;
Option #2- if the steps mentioned in Option #1 do not fix the issue;
The work-around would be to disconnect or unconfigure the FC adapter and reconnect or reconfigure it, then run cfgmgr once the client boots.
For option #1;
#1.2 if that does not work, try forcing the Login operation;
#1.3 if the adapters are still not Logged in, log them in by applying the following steps;
Boot into SMS and select "5" Boot Options;
