Generating Report in iBase Causes Microsoft Word to Crash

Troubleshooting

Problem

When generating a Microsoft Word report from iBase that contains a large data set, Microsoft Word can potentially crash as it starts requiring lots of memory to execute its functions. This has been observed in 32-bit Microsoft Word.

Symptom

The Report will not complete and Microsoft Word will crash with an error:
One potential error is the following:
Errors occurred while producing the report: Automation error. The remote procedure call failed. (id5Error FReportWizard:Word_StandardLinks FReportWizard:Word_StandardReport)
"Errors occurred while producing the report:
Automation error
The remote procedure call failed.
(id5Error FReportWizard:Word_StandardLinks
FReportWizard:Word_StandardReport)"
Another potential error due to the Microsoft Word "undo" function is the following:
Errors occurred while producing the report: An error occurred while saving undo information. (Microsoft Word FReportWizard:Word_StandardReport)
"Errors occurred while producing the report:
An error occurred while saving undo information.
(Microsoft Word FReportWizard:Word_StandardReport)"

Cause

Microsoft Word runs out of memory when having to work with lots of data from the report generation.

Environment

32-bit Microsoft Word
iBase 8

Resolving The Problem

If you encounter the issue described above, try running the report with a different format, such as RTF or HTML as shown below.
