Troubleshooting
Problem
A complete backup or restore of a DataPower appliance with a large number of domains may fail without providing helpful diagnostics. For instance, in one case it was reported that the prompt to allow you to save the backup to a file never appeared. The popup to choose to download the backup file displayed, but at that point an error was recorded in the log: "File not found." Similarly, a full backup may complete, but the complete restore might not be successful. The WebGUI might hang without giving a meaningful error message.
Symptom
The complete backup or restore might fail if there are lots of domains. It is usually possible to backup or restore in smaller increments to work around the current limitations.
The following steps show just one example of an issue you might see when importing a large .zip backup file. Keep in mind, this is not the only symptom and also not the only action that can encounter related problems. Backups of devices with large, complex configurations and many domains, as well as restores, might run into limitations and hang or display errors.
Here are recreation steps that show one possible problem when attempting to restore all domains:
- Administration > Configuration > Import Configuration
- Use the default ZIP Bundle and browse for the File, backup.zip
- Select Next to display the list of domains
- Click All to select all domains and press Restore
- After backup completes, select Next
At this point, you see an error and login to the WebGUI might be temporarily down:
