IBM Support

UNIX ls command not reporting elements in view

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote explains why the Linux® and UNIX® list (ls) command may not see an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® element where the cleartool ls command does report the file.

Symptom

Attempts to run the UNIX/Linux ls command does not return an expected file.

Example: The file conf.lib is expected.

%>ls
ftam.lib      kernel.lib    stack.lib
confftl1.o    ftir.lib      pkvcfg.o

%>ls -l conf.lib
conf.lib: No such file or directory

%>cleartool ls conf.lib
conf.lib@@/main/CHECKEDOUT from /main/0
[checkedout but removed]

Note: The checkedout but removed comment appended to the cleartool ls output means the element was checked out in this view, but the view-private file was subsequently removed. You may have deleted the file.
