About Symantec with Tamper Protection and ClearCase

Problem

This technote explains why the message, Warning: OpenProcessToken failed: Error 5, occurs when using IBM® Rational® ClearCase® on a host running Symantec® AntiVirus Enterprise with Tamper Protection enabled.

Symptom

  1. When Tamper Protection is enabled in Symantec, the following warning is reported in the Credentials Manager (cccredmgr) log:

    cccredmgr(556): Warning: OpenProcessToken failed: Error 5: No additional description available for this system error.
  2. You may also experience a system hang when Tamper Protection is enabled while running ClearCase.
