Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempting to FTP a file from one server to another, with no firewall in between, the FTP process fails with the error: 425 Possible PASV port theft, cannot open data connection. (F) Socket Closed.Connection closed. The failures are random. The process succeeds at times and fails at times.
Cause
This situation is caused by the FTP server shutting down the connection when Passive mode is attempted and -PORT is not specified in the command line option override. This results in the inability to reconnect unless the map is restarted with a -PORT override.
Resolving The Problem
Using Port Mode (-PT or -PORT) resolves this issue. The Port Mode adapter command (-PT or -PORT) specifies that only Port Mode is used for the FTP data connection. This is an older connection method and may be the only way to connect on older servers. By default, the adapter first tries to connect using Passive Mode; see the Passive Mode adapter command (-PV). If the adapter is unsuccessful, it uses Port Mode. During a Port Mode connection, the adapter listens for the connection and dictates where the server is to connect.
