IBM OpenPages Record level security

Product Documentation

Abstract

• Define record level security • Explain how record level security works • Locate the security rules administration screen • Understand the components of a record level security rule • List record level security rule restrictions • Define record level security rule access controls

Content

• Record level security allows you to control access permissions to individual object instances in a folder. • This is accomplished by combining role-based security and one or more Security Rules for an object type. • Security rules do not replace role-based security. They provide an extra level of security that works with role-based security. • Security rules are applied to all OpenPages system components, including Reporting, Workflow, FastMap, Triggers, Reporting Periods, and all available views.
• A security rule is comprised of two parts: ▪ A formula that determines the conditions for granting the access controls, ▪ Access controls that specify the permissions allowed. • If the formula returns TRUE then the selected access controls are allowed.
NOTE: Security Rules are not applied to administrators that have full permissions for all object types and fields.
Security rule formula:
• The security rule formula has the following restrictions: ▪ They do not support computed text fields or large text fields. ▪ They do not support NULL values. −The NOT operator does not return objects that have an empty, blank, or null value in the selected field criteria. ▪ They do not support encrypted simple or long string data type fields.
Access controls:
• Access controls permit the user a variety of permissions: ▪ Create: Users can create new object instances. ▪ Read: Users can view existing object instances. ▪ Update: Users can make changes to existing object instances. ▪ Delete: Users can delete object instances. ▪ Associate: Users can add or remove associations between object instances. • If access controls are not assigned in the security rule then role-based security determines the permissions.
