Updating Rational Application Developer 9.6.1 to 9.6.1.3 fails when Rational Software Architect Designer 9.6.1 is installed in the same package group

Problem

Attempts to update Rational Application Developer version 9.6.1 to version 9.6.1.3 while Rational Software Architect Designer version 9.6.1 is also installed in the same package group using the IBM Installation Manager results in the error: " Updating IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software to 9.6.1.3 is not allowed; the package is not compatible with IBM Rational Software Architect Designer 9.6.1. ".

Symptom

Example: Update of Rational Application Developer 9.6.1 to Rational Application Developer 9.6.1.3 following a shell share installation of Rational Software Architect Designer 9.6.1.

Steps to reproduce using the example above:

  1. Run Installation Manager.
  2. Select Update.
  3. Chose Rational Application Developer 9.6.1.3 (from list of products)
  4. Click Next.

The full error message is as follows:

Message ID: CRIMA1069E

Explanation: Packages that are not compatible cannot be installed in the same package group.
User Action: Check for compatible updates for the package.  For information about updates for a package, see the package documentation.
