Flashes (Alerts)
Abstract
Known issues exist for specific 1.92 TB, 3.8 TB and 7.6 TB SSDs running firmware prior to 9392 which could result in undetected data corruption or drive failure.
Content
The drive models listed in the table below are exposed to firmware faults which can cause one of two issues:
- During times of high I/O a rare timing window exists that if a block is read immediately after it was written it may result in incorrect data being returned. All subsequent reads of the same block should return correct data. To our knowledge, as of the date of issuance of this Flash, IBM has not observed this issue.
- A high number of SAS errors can be reported by the drive and as a result the drive will fail.
IBM strongly recommends customers with these types of drives running with exposed code levels upgrade their drive firmware to level 9395 or greater, which will prevent these issues. The fixes are available in drive firmware packages dated 6th June 2019 or later.
