Question

How can I format Date field in Microsoft Excel?

Answer

Once data is imported in to Excel:

  1. Highlight the column where the date and time appear.
  2. Go to the DATA tab (from the top of the Excel page)
  3. Select 'Text to Columns'
  4. The wizard will start setting the field as 'Delimited, which is correct so ensure it is selected, select Next
  5. Select SPACE as the delimiter and below you see how the field has been broken up.  Select Next.
  6. Select DATE and the format you want it to appear in. Select FINISH
  7. Excel asks if you want to replace the cells with the new data output.  Select YES
  8. Field should now only contain the Date portion of the Date time stamp.
