Symptom
The Integrated Management Module (IMM) error log event "Sensor ME Error has transitioned to critical from a less severe state" is seen after UEFI firmware upgrade. The system will not boot.
Affected Configurations
The system may be any of the following Lenovo servers:
- Lenovo System x3500 M5, type 5464, any model
- Lenovo System x3550 M5, type 5463, any model
- Lenovo System x3650 M5, type 5462, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The following system BIOS/UEFI level(s) are affected: v1.02, v1.03, v1.10
The system has the symptom described above.
Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of UEFI.
The target date for this release is scheduled for first quarter 2016.

Workaround
Before UEFI firmware upgrade, follow the following action to work around the issue:
- Update IMM firmware to the latest version.
- Reboot the IMM, then reboot the system.
- Load UEFI default.
- Reboot the system.
- Upgrade UEFI to the latest version.
- Reboot the system.
If the issue still occurs and the system cannot boot anymore, replace the system board and upgrade the firmware following the workaround steps listed.
