Symptom

Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) and other tools, including StorCLI, will not pull Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) information for new System x hard drives. The FRU field will either be blank or missing.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of OneCLI or StorCLI.

The target date for this release is scheduled for first quarter 2016.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

     http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

Workaround

Continue using the system as needed. This is only a cosmetic issue and there is no functional impact.

To gather the FRU number, visually inspect the physical label on the drive cage.

Additional information

New hard drives for System x systems are labelled as LENOVO-X. Previous hard drives were labelled as IBM-X. When management applications identify the drives, they trigger on this electronic label and they currently only recognize the IBM-X string.

The new drives may appear as unsupported/unwarranted on the management application because the label is LENOVO-X.
