RETAIN tip: H007627
Symptom
Under very rare conditions, system may unexpectedly power off by continuously applying Power on and Power off Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) commands.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3550 M4, type 7914, any model
- System x3550 M4, type 7914 E5-xxxxV2, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
Solution
When the fail symptoms happen, load and save default settings in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) setup menu or apply the ASU command of Loaddefault.
Both actions of loading/saving default settings in UEFI setup menu and applying the ASU command of Loaddefault will result in losing user's specific settings in UEFI. Users need to manually backup their specific settings before applying actions and restore them in UEFI settings afterwards.
Additional information
It usually takes at least 20 seconds to power on or power off the system by Power on/off ASU commands. If it is less than 20 seconds between system Power on and Power off commands, it may cause the system to unexpectedly shut down after continuous system power on and off.
