In rare cases, an x3550 M5 system may display a 'fan 4B error' message in the system event log.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • Lenovo System x3550 M5, type 5463, any model

This tip is not software specific.

This tip is not option specific.

Workaround

There is no workaround - the message is spurious and may be safely ignored as the x3550 M5 does not have a fourth fan device.

Additional information

It has been observed that an x3550 M5 may, in rare cases, generate the 'fan 4B error' message, despite the fact that there is no fourth fan in the system. The message does not appear continuously, and there is no functional issue.

The root cause of this issue is being investigated.
