Security Bulletin: Multiple vulnerabilities in IBM Java SDK affect IBM Fabric Manager (CVE-2015-0138, CVE-2015-0410, CVE-2014-6593, CVE-2014-3566, CVE-2014-6457, CVE-2014-6558)

Summary

There are multiple vulnerabilities in IBM® SDK Java™ Technology Edition, Version 7.0 that is used by IBM Fabric Manager. This also includes a fix for the Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption (POODLE) SSLv3 vulnerability (CVE-2014-3566). These issues were disclosed as part of the IBM Java SDK updates in October 2014 and January 2015.

This bulletin also addresses the "FREAK: Factoring Attack on RSA-EXPORT keys" TLS/SSL client and server vulnerability.

Vulnerability Details:

CVE-ID: CVE-2015-0138

Description: A vulnerability in various IBM SSL/TLS implementations could allow a remote attacker to downgrade the security of certain SSL/TLS connections. An IBM SSL/TLS client implementation could accept the use of an RSA temporary key in a non-export RSA key exchange ciphersuite. This could allow a remote attacker using man-in-the-middle techniques to facilitate brute-force decryption of TLS/SSL traffic between vulnerable clients and servers.

This vulnerability is also known as the FREAK attack.

Affected products and versions

• IBM Fabric Manager 4.1.00.24 and earlier versions.

Remediation/Fixes:

IBM recommends that you review your entire environment to identify areas that enable the SSLv3 protocol and take appropriate mitigation and remediation actions. The most immediate mitigation action that can be taken is disabling SSLv3. You should verify disabling SSLv3 does not cause any compatibility issues.

Workarounds and Mitigations:

To avoid CVE-2014-3566 (POODLE), SSL 3.0 can be disabled by using the IFM "TLS 1.2 only" setting. You should verify disabling SSLv3 does not cause any compatibility issues.
