RETAIN tip: H214215
Symptom
The Chassis Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) is in System Management Basic Input/Output System (SMBIOS) at type 3 offset 7 --> Serial Number.
Currently, this value is all zeros. The value would look like this output:| [UUID:00000000000000000000000000000000] |
Affected configurations
The system can be any of the following Lenovo servers:
- Flex System x240 M5 Compute Node, type 9532, any model

This tip is not option specific.
Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).
The target date for this release is fourth quarter 2015.
The file will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/
Workaround
Find this UUID directly from the CMM console.
- SSH to the Chassis Management Module (CMM) console.
- Login with the account and password.
- Type in info.
- The first UUID represents the chassis UUID.
(where SSH = Secure Shell)
Additional information
Currently, the chassis UUID is stored in the CMM. When the Integrated Management Module (IMM) boots up, the IMM retrieves this value from the CMM and store it at a specific location within itself. UEFI gets this value from the IMM later, when users power up the system. In this case, UEFI cannot get the exact value from the IMM, and defaults the value to zeros.
