Problem

When running in Unified Fabric Port (UFP) mode, the EN4172 and CN4022 adapters show Functions 3 and 4 disabled in UEFI, even though they are up and functional. The switch shows the two (2) functions being up and functional.

Symptom

When running in Unified Fabric Port (UFP) mode, the EN4172 and CN4022 adapters show Functions 3 and 4 disabled in UEFI, even though they are up and functional. 

The switch shows the two (2) functions being up and functional.

Affected configurations

The system can be any of the following IBM servers:

  • Flex System x220 Compute Node, type 7906, any model
  • Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 8737, any model
  • Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 8737 E5-xxxxV2, any model
  • Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 8738, any model
  • Flex System x440 Compute Node, type 7917, any model
  • Flex System x880 X6 Compute Node, type 7903 , any model
  • Lenovo Flex System x240 M5 Compute Node, type 9532, any model, any AC1
  • Lenovo Flex System x880 Compute Node, type 7196, any model, any x880

The system is configured with one or more of the following option part numbers:

  • Flex System EN4172 Dual-Port 10 Gb Ethernet Adapter, option part number 00AG530
  • Flex System CN4022 Dual-Port 10 Gb Converged Adapter, option part number 88Y5920
  • Flex System CN4022 Dual-Port 10 Gb Converged Adapter, option part number 88Y5921

This tip is not software specific.

The adapter firmware for the Flex System CN4022 Dual-Port 10 Gb Converged Adapter and Flex System EN4172 Dual-Port 10 Gb Ethernet Adapter is affected.

Solution

Update to version T7.12b.4.4 of the NetXtreme II Firmware or later. The fix is in the 7.12.21 EFI subcomponent.

The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2015.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
