High CPU utilization when using Storwize V7000 for Lenovo as a backend storage subsystem for an IBM SAN Volume Controller

Troubleshooting

Problem

High CPU utilization when using Storwize V7000 for Lenovo as a backend storage subsystem for an IBM SAN Volume Controller

Resolving The Problem

Abstract

Storwize V7000 for Lenovo controllers report high CPU utilization if they are used as a back end storage subsystem behind an IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC) cluster running V5.1 or V6.1. The actual CPU utilization reported increases based on the number of SVC nodes in the cluster.

Solution

Performance testing has shown that the high CPU utilization being reported on the Storwize V7000 for Lenovo does not affect the performance of the Storwize V7000 for Lenovo or the IBM SVC, and can safely be ignored.

Upgrading the SVC cluster to V6.2.0.0 or a later level resolves the problem that caused the high CPU utilization to be reported.
