Summary |
|---|
Java vulnerability could allow decryption of long GUI session
Vulnerability Details |
|---|
CVE-2014-0411
DESCRIPTION:
Java is used in the system’s GUI. Timing differences based on the validity of messages can be exploited to decrypt the entire session. The exploit is not trivial, requiring a man-in-the-middle position and an extended period of time (around 20 hours). Decryption of the session could give the attacker access to user credentials.

6.3, 6.4, 7.1 and 7.2. Code release 7.3 is not vulnerable.
Remediation/Fixes |
|---|
Lenovo recommends that you fix this vulnerability by upgrading
affected versions of IBM SAN Volume Controller, IBM Storwize V7000,
V5000, V3700 and V3500 and IBM Flex System V7000 to one of the
following code levels or higher:
7.3.0.3
Latest SAN Volume Controller Code
Latest Storwize V7000 Code
Latest Storwize V5000 Code
Latest Storwize V3700 Code
Latest Storwize V3500 Code
Workarounds and Mitigations |
|---|
Limit the length of GUI sessions to less than 20 hours.
Although Lenovo recommends that you install a level of code with a
fix for this vulnerability, you can mitigate, although not
eliminate, your risk until you have done so by ensuring that all
users who have access to the system are authenticated by another
security system such as a firewall.
