AMM logs I/O module x over recommended temperature with Cisco Switch - IBM Server

Troubleshooting

Problem

AMM Logs I/O Module x Over Recommended Temperature with Cisco Switch

Resolving The Problem

Source

RETAIN Tip:H213685

Symptom

The Advanced Management Module logs the event:

I/O MODULE X OVER RECOMMENDED TEMPERATURE

However, the I/O Module is functioning normally. These events events recover within seconds, but then occasionally return and recover again. There are no other temperature related errors in the Advanced Management Module (AMM) event log and no other I/O Module related faults.

Affected Configurations

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

Cisco Nexus 4001I Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 46M6071, any replacement part number

Cisco Systems Fiber Intelligent Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module for BladeCenter, Option part number 32R1888, any replacement part number

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not software specific.

The system has the symptom described above.

Workaround

This issue is a limitation of the AMM and Cisco switch. If there are no other errors or faults reported with the I/O Module, the Input/Output module (IOM) should be considered okay.

Additional Information

AMM cannot read the temperature value directly from I/O Module.

AMM periodically checks the status register of each I/O Module by reading the status register via Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) bus.
