In some cases, the systems with Integrated Management Module II (IMM2) may encounter an issue where no system event is being logged. Moreover, the user is also not able to restart the IMM via IMM web interface even though it can be logged into successfully.

In some cases, the systems with Integrated Management Module II (IMM2) may encounter an issue where no system event is being logged. Moreover, the user is also not able to restart the IMM via IMM web interface even though it can be logged into successfully.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3100 M4, Type 2582, any model
  • System x3100 M5, Type 5457, any model
  • System x3250 M4, Type 2583, any model
  • System x3250 M5, Type 5458, any model, any any model
  • System x3300 M4, Type 7382, any model
  • System x3500 M4, Type 7383, any model
  • System x3500 M4, Type 7383 E5-xxxxV2, any model
  • System x3530 M4, Type 7160, any model
  • System x3530 M4, Type 7160 E5-xxxxV2, any model
  • System x3550 M4, Type 5459, any model
  • System x3550 M4, Type 7914, any model
  • System x3550 M4, Type 7914 E5-xxxxV2, any model
  • System x3630 M4, Type 7158, any model
  • System x3630 M4, Type 7158 E5-xxxxV2, any model
  • System x3650 M4 BD, Type 5466, any model
  • System x3650 M4 HD, Type 5460, any model
  • System x3650 M4, Type 7915, any model

The following system firmware level(s) are affected:

  • ibm_fw_imm2_1aoo64s-4.56 and previous version (s)

Solution

This behavior was corrected in ibm_fw_imm2_1aoo66m-4.97.

The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

Workaround

The issue can be resolved by restarting the IMM from the IMM Command Line Interface (CLI) or from the server Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) screen.

For restarting from the CLI, the user can use Secure Shell (SSH) to log in to the IMM. The user then issues the 'resetsp' command.

For example:

  Welcome to the server management network terminal!
login : USERID
Password: ********
system>resetsp

To restart the IMM from the UEFI screen, boot the server and press 'F1' when prompted.

From the 'System Configuration and Boot Management' page, select System Settings, Integrated Management Module, Reset IMM.

Additional information

The symptom occurs when the IMM2 event manager utility is hung on a specific incident, preventing events from being generated.
