Problem

The Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 port on the front of the system does not load Microsoft Windows. This is because the device drivers for this USB port is not native to the operating system. There is no fix for this issue. The current operating systemcannot access the USB device natively. After the operating system is loaded and a device driver loaded, then the device can be accessed normally.

Symptom

The Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 port on the front of the system does not load Microsoft Windows. This is because the device driver for this USB port is not native to the operating system.

There is no fix for this issue. The current operating system cannot access the USB device natively.

After the operating system is loaded and a device driver is loaded, the device can be accessed normally.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

Flex System x280 X6 Compute Node, type 4259, any model
Flex System x280 X6 Compute Node, type 7903 , any model
Flex System x480 X6 Compute Node, type 4259, any model
Flex System x480 X6 Compute Node, type 7903 , any model
Flex System x880 X6 Compute Node, type 4259, any model
Flex System x880 X6 Compute Node, type 7903 , any model

Solution

There is no fix for this issue. The current operating system cannot access the USB device natively.

Workaround

To install Microsoft Windows from a CD/USB device, use the dongle connector on the front of the system. This cable expands into a video/USB connection. This connection is capable of installing Microsoft Windows.

Additional information

USB 3.0 is not native to Microsoft Windows. Because this is a new function, it requires a device driver to be loaded to make this port work. During installation from the current CD/DVD, this device driver is not available.
