The Legacy configuration utility cannot be used when the ServeRAID N2115/N2125 SAS/SATA HBA slot order is higher than the Brocade 8G/16G FC HBA. (where FC = Fibre Channel, HBA = Host Bus Adapter)

Symptom

The Legacy configuration utility cannot be used when the ServeRAID N2115/N2125 SAS/SATA HBA slot order is higher than the Brocade 8G/16G FC HBA.

(where FC = Fibre Channel, HBA = Host Bus Adapter)

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3100 M5, type 5457, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • Brocade 16 Gb FC Dual-Port HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 81Y1675, any replacement part number
  • Brocade 16 Gb FC Single-Port HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 81Y1668, any replacement part number
  • Brocade 8 Gb FC Dual-Port HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 46M6050, any replacement part number
  • Brocade 8 Gb FC Single-Port HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 46M6049, any replacement part number
  • ServeRAID N2115 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 46C8988, any replacement part number
  • ServeRAID N2125 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 46C9010, any replacement part number

This tip is not software specific.

The following system BIOS/uEFI level(s) are affected: Build ID: J9E114HUS, 1.02

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of UEFI/Option part number ROM.

The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2014.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

Install Brocade FC HBA in higher Slot, for instance slot 1, or change the Option part number ROM (OPROM) execute order to the first in UEFI setup menu.

If users trigger the issue with this specific configuration, users can swap the PCI devices directly or swap the legacy ROM load order in 'Set Option ROM Execution Order'.

Additional information

This is an address assignment issue in Compatible System Module (CSM) module. When the priority of ServeRAID N2115/N2125 SAS/SATA HBA OPROM is higher than Brocade FC HBAs, Brocade OPRON impacts ServeRAID N2115/N2125 SAS/SATA HBA OPROM as a result, the Legacy configuration utility cannot be used during Power On Self Test (POST).
