Symptom
Two blade hosts in the same chassis cannot ping each other when connected through a Brocade Converged switch at default configuration.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- BladeCenter H, type 8852, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- Brocade Converged 10 Gb Ethernet Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 69Y1909, any replacement part number
- QLogic Dual-Port 10 Gb Converged Network Adapter (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 42C1830, any replacement part number
- QLogic Ethernet and 4 Gb Fibre Channel Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 39Y9306, any replacement part number, 39Y9304
- QLogic Ethernet and 8 Gb Fibre Channel Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44X1940, replacement part number 44X1943
- QLogic Virtual Fabric Extension Module for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 46M6172, any replacement part number (CRU)
This tip is not software specific.
Workaround
Make sure all Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) are enabled. This can be done via the switches Command Line Interface (CLI) or Graphical User Interface (GUI).
Enable VLAN 1 for base Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) to function in the switch.
Additional information
ICMP is not enabled on VLAN1 in the default configuration of the Brocade converged switch
