Troubleshooting
Problem
Dynamic System Analysis(DSA) cannot detect the following LSI Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) controllers: - IBM ServeRAID N2115 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x(Option PN: 46C8988, FRU 46C8989) - IBM ServeRAID N2125 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x(Option PN: 46C9010, FRU 46C9011) - IBM ServeRAID N2126 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x(Option PN: 47C8683, FRU 47C8684) - IBM 6 Gb SAS HBA, Option 46M0907 As a result, inventory and diagnostic functions are missing for the listed LSI options. Users cannot see the LSI information page and diagnostic items in DSA. (where SCSI = Small Computer System Interface)
Resolving The Problem
Source
RETAIN tip: H211038
Symptom
Dynamic System Analysis(DSA) cannot detect the following LSI Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) controllers:
- IBM ServeRAID N2115 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number: 46C8988, replacement part number 46C8989.
- IBM ServeRAID N2125 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number: 46C9010, replacement part number 46C9011.
- IBM ServeRAID N2126 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number: 47C8683, replacement part number 47C8684.
- IBM 6 Gb SAS HBA, Option 46M0907
As a result, inventory and diagnostic functions are missing for the listed LSI options.
Users cannot see the LSI information page and diagnostic items in DSA.
(where SCSI = Small Computer System Interface)
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- NeXtScale nx360 M4, type 5455, any model
- System x3250 M5, type 5458, any model, any any model
- System x3500 M4, type 7383, any model
- System x3550 M4, type 7914, any model
- System x3650 M4, type 7915, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- IBM 6 Gb SAS HBA, Option part number 46M0907, any replacement part number (CRU)
- ServeRAID N2115 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 46C8988, any replacement part number (CRU)
- ServeRAID N2125 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 46C9010, any replacement part number (CRU)
- ServeRAID N2126 SAS/SATA HBA for IBM System x, Option part number 47C8683, any replacement part number (CRU)
This tip is not software specific.
The system is configured with Dynamic System Analysis 9.40.
The system's Dynamic System Analysis 9.40 diagnostic did complete.
The system's Dynamic System Analysis 9.40 diagnostic passes.
The following system firmware level(s) are affected:
- Dynamic System Analysis 9.41
- Dynamic System Analysis 9.50
Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of Dynamic
System Analysis
The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2013.
The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround
Download LSI utility 'sas2ircu' from LSI web site to get the information on LSI options.
Download link:
This utility supports regular OSes including: Windows 2003/2008, SUSE 10,11, Red Hat 5,6 both 32 bit and 64 bit.
Additional information
This issue is caused by a provider integrated in Dynamic System Analysis. If these Options are plugged to the system, it will fail when getting Common Information Model (CIM) instances.
For the affected SAS controllers, users can use the LSI utility 'sas2ircu' for SAS controller to get the relevant information. Basic usage for sas2ircu:
| sas2ircu #controller_number DISPLAY |
For other usage, type in 'sas2ircu help'.
