Problem

When installing a NVIDIA K1 or K2 adapter with Windows 2012, the RemoteFX 3D device does not appear in virtual machine device manager when using Windows 2007 or Windows 2008. Only the standard Video Graphics Array (VGA) display adapter is present. Thereare no devices with errors or warnings shown.

Symptom

When installing a NVIDIA K1 or K2 adapter with Microsoft Windows 2012, the RemoteFX 3D device does not appear in virtual machine device manager when using Microsoft Windows 2007 or Microsoft Windows 2008.

Only the standard Video Graphics Array (VGA) display adapter is present. There are no devices with errors or warnings shown.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012, any service pack

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • IBM Flex System PCIe Expansion Node, Option part number 81Y8983, any replacement part number
  • NVIDIA 16 GB VGX K1 PCI-Express Compute Card, Option part number 00J6160, any replacement part number
  • NVIDIA 8 GB VGX K2 PCI-Express X16 Compute Card, Option part number 00J6161, any replacement part number

Solution

Only Microsoft Windows 7 SP2 and Microsoft Windows 8 are supported as guest operating systems. Follow instructions according to Microsofts RemoteFX vGPU Setup and Configuration Guide for Windows Server 2012 at:

Additional information

Microsoft only supports Windows 7 and 8 as Guest operating systems as virtual machine.
